Rain on...

Cary blogged this a while back now and just sent it to me in an email and it is my humble opinion that it is more than good enough for todays blog...as she said in her mail, very ikon and painfully beautiful

I'm the hunter who's killed by his dog
I'm the statue burnt down into lead
I'm the problem you don't want to solve
I'm the lover who dies in his bed

So rain on the pretty ones
Your useless lives don't speak to us
Rain on the pretty ones
You leave no footprints in the dust
Adventurous you used to be
But now you seem so dead to me

I'm the doctor with a needle in his arm
I'm the cartoon that makes you feel sad
I'm the secret that everyone has
I'm the cancer that never turns black

So rain on the pretty ones
Your useless lives don't speak to us
Rain on the pretty ones
You leave no footprints in the dust
Adventurous you used to be
But now you seem so dead to me

I'm the actor who's scared to perform
I'm the sunshine that hides in the clouds
I'm the father that couldn't be found
I'm the cuckoo that never flew south
I'm the Christian that cannot forgive
I'm the dreamer who jumps off the bridge
I'm the sinner who hates how he lives
I'm the liar who gets what he gives

god. i used to hear sermons all the time about sin and what it was and how god meant changing. and i used to wait and wait for the bit where they told you how to be a better person. and it never came. it used to make me think that they all knew some secret that they weren't telling...

a wise old man said to me recently that more conservative evangelical churches are pretty good at the milk stage of faith but not very good at the meat side. i remember stocki saying that it's one thing to be born again, but that we also must grow up again. the problem though is very few people unpack that so we can see how it looks, thats why i love Gb so much it asks the right questions which take us deeper into the mystery...ramble ramble ramble

i don't know. at the minute i feel like maybe if i'd been able to grow up the first time without all the 'born again' interference...

sometimes i think the milk was off...
