Body and Soul

'Today I know I was right and I know why. The adolescents of my generation, greedy for life, forgot in body and soul about their hopes for the furure until reality taught them that tomorrow was not what they had dreamed, and they discovered nostalgia. My sunday columns were there, like an archeological relic among the ruins of the past, and they realised they were not only for the old but also for the young who were not afraid of aging.'
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Memories of My Melancholy Whores

Nostalgia, my biggest vice. Yet why is it that the past, viewed from the future appears so good? And yet the present, viewed from the present can never compete?

Not sure, but I agree (though your questions is obviously rhetorical)

So why answer it? lol

No, its nice to know that you share my view. It seems I spend far too much time pondering the past, even more worrying is I really am still young. I feel I am often striving to regain the excitement of those nostalgic memories. Perhaps the memory loss of those bad experiences has simply served to romanticize the good?
